Nina Brooke. Artist, surfer, creative powerhouse.
Nina's art work perfectly illustrates the beauty of the ocean, coastlines and our relationship with the natural environment. Her use of colour and application of the paint brilliantly encapsulates the energy of the shorelines and evokes warm and lazy days spent by the sea . Her connection to the waves as a surfer has given her a deep understanding of the movement of water which she translates so brilliantly onto canvas. She works with different mediums like oil, acrylic, texture, and watercolour to keep her work fresh and forever changing.
NCA: NINA, WHERE DOES YOUR INSPIRATION COME FROM?
My inspiration comes from being involved in the scene of the sea. Participating in the theatre of the ocean and all it attracts and beholds. Atmosphere, form, energy, colour, texture and the interaction humans play with this. I am fascinated by the conversations humans are having with the their surroundings and with one another. When I am in this coastal scene, I like to watch and soak up the details in the ongoing performance played by nature and human and capture this into a new perspective on canvas that shows the viewer the beauty and fun of the moment.
NCA: WHAT ATTRACTED YOU TO THE MEDIUM YOU USE?
My medium Acrylic is quick, energetic, vibrant and clean, and thats how I can most easily express myself onto the canvas.
NCA: WHAT ARE YOUR ESSENTIALS?
I have quite a few essentials! Brushes, easel, paint pots, canvas, paper, acrylic, plants, candle, music, coffee and lots of enthusiasm!
