JULIA FLORENCE

Julia Florence is an award winning ceramist. She studied at both Falmouth University and at at the Charles H. Cecil Studios in Florence, Italy. Her work centres on both a beautiful exploration of the female figure and abstract brush movements.

Julia takes inspiration from her natural surroundings on the Cornish coast as well as a love of life drawing and celebrating women’s bodies. The combination of her tactile, full bodied vessels with delicately drawn figures is something she loves to play with as well as more expressive, abstract brushwork.

Throwing her ceramics with local clay and taking inspiration from shapes and techniques used by Japanese potters and St Ives artists, the thought and consideration that goes into throwing and decorating her pieces results in work that gives her true enjoyment through both the process and the finished pieces.

She hopes to create a sense of empowerment through her work around the idea of connectedness between humans and nature, exploring this through the medium of clay as well as drawing and painting.
