JoHN HERSEY

John graduated from Farnham University of Creative Arts in 2008 and is now living on the North Cornwall coast. His calm and detailed approach to photography explicitly references the authenticity in fabric, spaces and people that he photographs, driven by intrigue and worship of light, shadow and how they define each other.

His photographs are both quiet and immersive; vignettes of a calm world, little abstractions that reassure and notice. A beautiful story is whispered.

John is endlessly on assignment, shooting for a wide range of clients including international journals, publishers & newsstand editorial with a focus on quality, environmental integrity and detail in his subjects. Based between Cornwall & London, John’s portfolio is eclectic, showcasing some of the most beautiful minds and spaces in the UK & beyond.

His series ‘Goldenness’ is a visual distillation of the last three years of working in thoughtful spaces. During vast frames of mountain tops and trees or gentle ponds and worktops, there’s comfort in the quietness and simplicity of the scenes and a meditative quality, nostalgia for something that hasn’t happened yet. There’s a common thread of human intervention, and a reassuring warmth in the wilderness of the spaces.
