Interior Inspiration - Sourcing the Art you love

CORNWALL ART GALLERY GUIDE

More often that not the art that we purchase for the home is an afterthought. The final element for that difficult wall space under the stairs or an empty corner becomes that’s just been gathering dust.

Art has the power shape the space we live in as much as that carefully arranged furniture or those £1000 brass taps, and has often been overlooked as a transformative feature for an interior. You’d budget for beautiful lights or that lust worthy Farrow and Ball colour, but an artwork budget is often seen as slightly indulgent. However recently this has shifted. Whether it be social media influencers chatting about living spaces designed around an artwork, enquiries from interior decorators, or even the first home buyers leaving extra budget for an eye catching piece, the art is moving to the forefront.

That being said however where do you start? Finding the right piece of art for the right place can be tricky. So here’s our tips for sourcing the right work for your walls;

CONSIDER YOUR STYLE

Art doesn’t have to match the colours in a room, in fact often a contrast can make a statement piece really stand out. We love a gallery wall with several contrasting pieces hung together. Obviously you will be buying artwork you love, so go with your gut. If you love two totally different pieces that might look like they clash, go with the flow, hang them together and see what you think. It often works out looking like a very curated space!

CONSIDER SIZE

As you will have read above, we are huge advocates for ‘buy what you love’, however nothing is more frustrating that buying a piece to find you have nowhere to hang it. (Obviously if you love a piece and you have the storage then go for it). Buy a tape measure, work out where you might want to have artwork and write down dimensions and store on your phone. This way if you are out and unexpectedly come across a piece you love you are armed with the right measurements. Remember original works can sell at any time, so don’t miss out on your dream piece because you needed to head home and measure up!
